The Leading Interior Design Trends of the Last Year

While 2017 is in full swing, many people are already looking at new interior design trends to keep an eye out for.

It’s surprising, then, that many of the current trends are actually the popular trends of 2016 still hanging around.

So if you just splurged on some copper and marble home wares, take a deep breath and relax, your home is still trendy! Let’s take a look at some of the interior design trends that carried over from last year, and are still in fashion today.

Terracotta

Warm materials such as terracotta tiles will probably always be in style. Unlike in the 1980s, these tiles aren’t used only as border tiles any longer. Rather, they’ll feature a natural matte finish and are used as feature walls in bathrooms, or even for cladding in fireplaces. Try to avoid terracotta tiles that are slightly too rustic, and keep it with a matte finish as this trend adds character and warmth to just about any interior.

Cork

Cork seems to be making a comeback. A popular trend in 206, this stylish material is used to add warmth and texture to interior spaces. It is also perfectly ideal for absorbing noise in South Africa’s increasingly large and open plan homes. Cork can be used in coffee table bases, or in combination with stone tops, as an example.

Dark Green

Dark shades of green are still popular. It is a must-have dark interior colour that creates a wintery Scandinavian backdrop for tan leathers and brass lamps. When used in feature cushions or armchairs, or as décor item accents, it adds depth and can easily bring the colours from the outdoors, indoors.
